View Full Version : Spread the Word About Black Friday @ GottaDeal & WIN!!!
Now that the site is getting some heavy traffic (and we thank you for that), we'd just like to let you know that the best way you can help us out (besides getting the discussion going by posting on the message board) is to let others know about the site.
The more people that know about the site, the more discussion we'll have on the message board. It will also increase the chances of people with access to the ads finding out about the site and letting us know about them as early as possible.
So tell your family, friends & co-workers about the site. If you belong to other message boards, let them know about it as well. We would definitely appreciate it. You'll notice that unlike most sites, we don't beg you to click on ads - heck, we don't even have any ads to click on! So this is one way you can help us out if you like what we provide every year :D
Also, if we see you spreading the word (or you let us know about it), we'll give you some bonus GottaPoints which you can use to win great prizes :)
OK, we're going to take this to the next level to really try to get some traffic to the site. To help us out, there are two things you could do that would be great:
First, post a link to the site (or the forum) on other sites and message boards that you visit. Include a link in your signature (there are even some countdown graphics that you can use here (http://forums.gottadeal.com/showpost.php?p=42224&postcount=17)) or post a new thread letting people know what Black Friday is and telling them about the site. Once you've done this (or if you already have), send a PM to either myself (http://forums.gottadeal.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=2) or RossMAN (http://forums.gottadeal.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=3) and let us know what site you've posted on and what your username is there. Once we check it out, we'll immediately give you some GottaPoints (http://www.gottadeal.com/GottaPoints) for your help. Do it for multiple sites and we'll give you more points. Simple as that :)
Second, and this one can be even more helpful if you are able to do it. Go to the web sites of your local newspapers and TV stations. Usually there is a section for "consumer news", "your money" or something like that. Send them a quick e-mail letting them know about this great site you found. You can have them contact us via the contact form (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/ContactUs) on the site. Last year we had several newspaper and TV stories about the site and we'd like even more this year. Again, after you do it, send a PM to either myself (http://forums.gottadeal.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=2) or RossMAN (http://forums.gottadeal.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=3) letting us know what newspapers and TV stations you contacted. If we get contacted by a reporter or have a story done about the site because of your work, not only will we give you a bunch of GottaPoints, but we'll have rewards such as cash or gift certificates for your help as well!
And if you can think of any other way to help us out, feel free to let us know about it. With your help we'll continue to be the largest Black Friday site online. :gd_partyu

Yes that is a really great idea (and if you notice, I suggested something like that in the second post in this thread but didn't think anyone would take action so quickly, lol). TV, newspapers, magazines, whatever you can find. We are media whores here at GD :D

Should I contact Business News? Sorry to sound so out of it, but I've never contacted the newspaper about a website before. Actually, I've never contacted the newspaper about anything but my subscription, my wedding, and the birth of my children. Didn't realize how much I apparently already like this site. :)

Let's see, there's Store Deals and Clearances, Kitchen Frugality, What's for Dinner?, Let's Discuss Dinner, Menu Planning, Food Network Shows, the two Asperger's Syndrome boards, Sensory Integration Dysfunction, etc. Gosh, I have over 50 boards in AOL's My Boards system that I read fairly regularly, and I have talked about GottaDeal.com on all of them. Thankfully, I do it within a conversation, so I haven't been accused of spamming the boards, as I am not posting the same exact post over and over.

Hopefully some people will come over from there and at least say that's where they heard of the site, even if they don't have a referral link to use.

I'm on a roll i have now sent to 2 diffrent town newspapers(one where i live, one where i work) a tv staction, a newslady for two radio stations( radion 91 & 101) and a few others:clapping:

Now that we are getting into November, contacting newspapers and TV stations becomes even more important as they are going to begin working on stories very soon. We have already been contacted by a few media outlets (and already have had one minor story -see the front BF site home page under "media appearances"), but we can always use more, so contact your local media telling them about the site, give them our contact form URL (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/ContactUs) if they want to get in touch and just tell them why you like the site so much.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. It's one of the biggest sale days of the year. You can find some of the best deals for christmas items on this day. It starts at different times at different stores.

Whether you or someone else clicks your referral link does nothing, you can click away but nothing will happen.
You earn GottaPoints if someone registers for the forum using your referral link (http://forums.gottadeal.com/index.php?referrerid=19277).

Today I went onto my local SEARS store and had them price match a SCENE IT.....while the guy was on the phone talking to another store about their sale price, we began to talk about "BLACK FRIDAY"....well, one thing led to another and soon I was telling him about gottadeal.com and all the great BLACK FRIDAY listings......I even wrote down the website for him and he agreed to check the site out!
As I was leaving the store I was stopped by a couple of shoppers who wanted to know about gottadeal.com and BLACK FRIDAY.....by the time I had left the store I had shared the site with over a dozen people and they said they were going to pass the word as well.......
it seems to me that "word of mouth" advertising might just be stronger than publishing.......maybe not as fast but definitely a winner in my town!

Let me know if you hear from anyone at the Pensacola News Journal and WearTV3 in Pensacola, FL. I sent them both emails with the Contact Us link. I know Channel 3 is always out on BF talking to shoppers, so maybe they will do a segment before hand and feature your website. Maybe the local paper will do some type of shopping story.
Love the improvements in the website this year, have shared the link with all my friends so they are visiting too.

I told them that they could do some preplanning on the website. I know they will because later when I ran into them they didn't have some of the toys in their cart anymore.
And I sent out an email to everyone in my contact list.

The more people that know about the site, the more discussion we'll have on the message board. It will also increase the chances of people with access to the ads finding out about the site and letting us know about them as early as possible.

I have made a few posts myself. The buzz regarding Wal-Marts ad has been the $398 HP laptop. Here is what everyone needs to know: Each store will only have 10-20 laptops to sell that one day. So if you want one you will have to pray and show up as early as possible.
THERE IS ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE OF THOSE LAPTOPS FOR THE $398 PRICE.........
Go to your local Wal-Mart who currently carries the model that will be featured in the Black Friday ad, because not all do. You will see that the current price is around $648-$699, put the laptop on layaway TODAY!! Then on Black Friday you go back into the same Wal-Mart go to the layaway counter and CANCEL that layaway....as soon as you get your money back tell the clerk you have decided to purchase that laptop after all and it will ring for $398 instead of the $648-$699 because the UPC for the laptop in Wal-Marts system will ring for the Black Friday AD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
