Menstrual Phase and Depressive Symptoms (MPADS) in Acute Smoking Abstinence
What is the purpose of the study?

This study is being done to investigate smoking behavior, premenstrual symptoms and mood in two different phases of the menstrual cycle.

How often are the clinic visits?

Once you are accepted into the study, you will attend 13 clinic visits during a three-month period, including daily visits for two six-day periods. Visits are held between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Most visits will last 30 to 60 minutes; however, there will be two two-hour visits and two four-hour visit.
What will I be doing in the study?

While participating in the study you will be filling out daily smoking and menstrual cycle diaries. You will also quit smoking for two four-day periods. At each clinic visit we will take your vital signs and weight, you will complete several forms, and we will collect blood and saliva samples. During four of the clinic visits you will be using nicotine nasal spray.
Will I be compensated?

If you come in for all the visits, do all the procedures and fill out all of the forms then you will be paid up to $860 to $910 for your participation. You will receive cash payments at the end of each clinic visit.
