If you think that your salesman is laid back, just ask them to sign off on the test drive. That way you don't have to take the time to drive the car, just the time to run over to the dealership. :)

When Kia did the free movie tickets for a test drive that tactic didn't work for me. I ended up driving a Kia Sportage to get the tickets, which just reaffirmed to me that I wouldn't buy a Kia unless they really improved their interiors.

It's interesting that you mentioned that. I have done about 40 of these test drive offers and have NEVER had to actually test drive the car. I think the sales professionals prefer people who are honest and upfront. So it normally takes me around 3 minutes total to get these signed.

However this Mazda 3 looks like a fun vehicle and I might actually test drive it. I wouldn't mind test driving an Acura TSX/TL or Lexus ES330 either :)

I think that my salesman was tired of just signing off on the movie tickets and not selling any cars. It was funny, because he rode with me on the test drive and was trying desperately to get me to like something about the car.

That was the only one that's ever done that to me. I've only done a few others and they've all just given me the promo.

I had 2 dealerships that did that to me with the Civic. I told them that I would not even consider buying from them if I didn't have a quote before I went in. I got a quote from one and no more contact from the other. Use all of the quotes to your advantage. When the dealers haggle over the price, your job is easier.

It would be a lot easier if we had dealers here on the forum that could just sign off for everyone :P
