If you are giving this as gifts, I'd look for cheap memory sticks to give as well. Last year I got one of these frames and couldn't wait to use it, but I needed to go buy a memory stick first

This digital photo frame brings you all the elegance of a traditional decorative frame, making it ideal for displaying images of special occasions. Photos can be displayed as a slideshow or in a manual control mode. Frame features a 3 1/2" LCD display with a 320 x 240 resolution, allows for picture rotation, has SD, MMC, and memory stick memory card support, and 8 MB of built-in memory and can store up to 50 photos. Supports JPEG format. AC adapter included. UL listed. Model #N3-505.

Good idea, but not necessary as it reads that it can hold up to 50 pics without a memory card.

Hate to bring this thread back up, but one question I never did ask. At only 3.5", most photo digital frames are 7-8" it seems, I know this must be a great deal as several have bought this item. Does anything in particular make this one better with only a 3.5" screen while others have a much bigger screen? Thanks..

So dumb question...You don't have to keep your SD card in the frame, right. It transfers over?

fluffkin79
11-21-2008, 5:39 PM
You can transfer pics from the card to the frame - it says about 50 of them. If that works for you, you're set.

Personally, I plan to pick up an SD card for each frame I buy. I have seen 2GB SD cards for $7 in BF ads (Walmart). The real deal pros might have a better deal.

Question I was asking, since the frame is so small, what makes this such a good deal? I see 7-8" frames. I have yet to buy my first digital photo frame and looking at getting one for a gift but just do not understand why this one is getting great reviews since it is so small. Ok I know nothing about these so enlighten me please..

The only thing I don't like is that the screen is really small and I'm a little worried that my 78yr old father and 85 yr old grandmother won't be able to see it very good. I actually went to Walmart just to see what a 3.5" display would look like. It looked too small for the Grandparents. I decided then I would have to wait for a deal on a 7".

I think I have actually found several of them. The best, IMHO, being the 7" from Walmart's Thanksgivng Day only sale. It comes with a 2G memory card. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10759814#Features+%26+Specifications

However, I still have a general question that one of you might could answer. I have looked at a few that say they have an internal battery, some say AC adapter, and other don't specify.

Do most of these frames just take standard batteries ?

At the time I was there I had no clue what would be on sale. I had seen the 3.5 listed here and it seemed small. I basically just wanted to see just how small it was. I never really looked at brands. But, I knew thy would need the7".

I did notice this particluar one says it is not sold in stores, so I bet I didn't see it.

I really debated on one I saw that Kohl's will have tomorrow. It has a remote, etc. I decided, for the Grandparents, the "plug and play" option would be best. They'd never figure out a remote anyway.

I might regret it, but this is the one I bought:

I've tried one out so far and I have to send it back. It worked for a few days, then froze on a pic during a slideshow and then shut off and wouldn't come back on. I have the other one on my desk at work to make sure it works, if not then it's going back as well. The only problem is that since its been 10 days, i have to get a replacement, they won't let me get a refund. Buy is also not selling them anymore so I'm hoping that maybe they are out of them and they will just credit me. I've already bought replacements somewhere else.

I used both frames with and without a sd card. The pics seem to be bad without the card inserted. HTH

pics were already loaded on mine, stock photos with babies, wedding, etc.

I put my sd card in and it was super easy. I then copied some to the internal memory and it was also pretty easy and then did the slide show. it ran without any lines or other problems.

Pros:
great under $25 gift
can run by just pluging usb into computer or by plug into wall (this is for a coworker, so works for me)
the sd card doesn't stick out at all from the frame (unlike one I got last year for my parents), it's hidden behind the frame.

Cons:
tiny screen- too small for gparents probably
resolution isn't great, but good enough
doesn't run on batteries

overall I am satisfied with my purchase. It's a toughtful, inexpensive gift for the "others" on my list i.e. cowoker, aunt, and babysitter. That I may not have purchased for, just baked cookies type of thing. I also got one for my hubby as a stocking stuffer to put on his desk.

Hope this helps!

We got ours this past week and YES they are small, but we put our card in and the picture quality was good. My husband is going to put one on his desk and we are giving some to our NOT technically gifted parents. I will also use one or two for a gift trade. So far we haven't had any problems with them. I guess these are o.k. for a first time digital frame user. NOt sure if the computer store MICROCENTER is just specific to Houston, TX, but my husband says they have "dirt cheap" SD cards.

I ordered 3 of these and I have spent all afternoon trying to load 1 of them. I take photos off my computer and put them on a memory stick. Put the memory stick in the frame and all the pictures show they load then I go to copy and choose "copy all" and after a few photos it has process fails and stops copying. I thought maybe it was the memory card so I went through and did another one and the same thing happened. Then I opened another frame and tried it and the same thing. Does anyone have any suggestions or do these frames just don't work. It says it stores up to 3000 pictures on internal memory and I'm only trying to do 50. I bought the Nextar 3.5 with multiple frames item#N3-507. Thanks to anyone that can save my insanity. :cheesy:

If your going to use them as teacher's gifts, then I would think about getting cards (IMO I wouldn't pay alot for the cards) The pics seem a little clearer with the sd card.

My goal with the frames (in the op) was for grandparents gifts, but these will not work as they are too small. I have one on my desk at work and it's fine for my needs. I did buy one from walmart and I love it as it has slots for ALL different sd cards and you can add them all at the same time and the frame will read each card one at a time!!!

I haven't tried mine yet, but I really like the way they look. I got the ones with changable frames. I need to load pics soon. I am giving them for gifts to my mom for her desk, my aunt at her work and possibly my boss for his desk. They are definitely not as good as my 7 inch, but I knew that when I ordered it. I sent the Nextar frame back since there were lines running across my pictures. The only option for my refund was to send a replacement frame to me. It doesn't look like they offer these anymore. So if I don't end up getting the replacement I picked this one up at Sams Club for $34.88 same size, comes with a carrying case, has a rechargeable battery and holds 45 pics.
Best Buy is selling the same frame for $49.99 (HP - 3.5" LCD Portable Digital Photo Frame)

Can anyone that had success loading pictures onto the frames let me know how they did it. I even had my son try that's really good at this kind of stuff and still can't get more than 3 pictures to play. I've tried memory cards and also tried loading the pictures onto the memory of the frame both times I get "process failed". These are really cute frames and before I send them back just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

Did anyone try using this frame yet? I did... and when I put my memory card in it loaded my pics and I could see them fine but when I put it in slideshow mode all the pictures had lines going thru them. Anyone else? (also mine already had a few pics in the memory I wonder if I received a return or if it was a demo or something?)

Mine also looked fine while loading the pics. Once I put them into slide show mode, there were lines running thru the pics (to where you could barely see the actual pic because of the lines). I'll have to try the other frame and see if it is the same way.

Has anyone who sent this frame back received a replacement or credit yet? It is taking forever!!!

I sent them back already and they received them on December 12/16. Then in the fine print it says that it takes 7-10 business days for processing which would have been the 26th. So here we are still waiting!

I haven't sent mine back yet. How much did it cost to send them back? I'm wondering if it's worth it....

I didn't pay anything because I labeled them as defective, however I have to get a replacement. But, they are not selling them anymore so I'm hoping that they will just refund my account. Not sure what will happen. I do know that you only have I think 10 days from purchase to request an RMA... so that's something to consider.

I just got an email that said "thank you for your order" is that the same one you received before they sent the replacements?
