View Full Version : DEAD- $100 When You Buy a Blu-ray Player + 4 Warner Blu-rays @Amazon (as low as $143)
This is posted on the main Gottadeal page, but I didn't see a post for it in the forums. Sorry if it is a re-post, but Amazon has a deal where you save $100 on a Blu-ray player and 4 movies from Warner. The deal lets you choose three players; a Samsing B1500, a Sylvania, and a PS3 80GB system. I bought the Samsung BD1500 and four movies for only $178 including shipping!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sears is going to have the same one on BF for $199, so I got it cheaper plus four movies. The movie selection isn't great, but the savings are.

Here is an update on how long this will last. It goes through the end of the year.
Promotional offer valid 12 a.m. Pacific time, October 24, 2008, through 11:59 p.m. Pacific time, December 31, 2008.
Maybe they will add better movies to choose from also.

Maybe they will add better movies to choose from also.
i hope so because none of the movies interest me.
This is a very hot deal. You can get the movies as low as $17 each, so it's almost like getting $32 off any Blu-ray player plus 4 free movies. And since Amazon already has very low prices on the players, the deal becomes even hotter.

My dh says he wants a BlueRay recorder + player... does such thing even exist?
My dh says he wants a BlueRay recorder + player... does such thing even exist?
There are Blu-ray recording drives for computers, but I don't think there are any "normal" Blu-ray recorders that you hook up to your TV to record on.
My dh says he wants a BlueRay recorder + player... does such thing even exist?
The only ones on sale are the ones listed. Two regular players and a PS3. I got the Samsung and mostly the $17 movies.
UPDATE: The price of the Sylvania Blu-ray increased by about $8. It it now more expensive than the Samsung. The Samsung dropped $2 since I bought it.

Is this a good deal if you get the PS3?
Not as much if you just want a Blu-ray. The PS3 is $400 + $78 worth of 4 movies(the cheaper ones) is $478 - $100 = $378 + tax and maybe shipping. You can get free shipping on some of the items. But it would make the PS3 about $300, if you want to look at it that way. My Samsung comes out to be about $107, so I know that's a good deal. It's hard to say what will happen with the PS3 this year, and what specials they offer, like extra controllers. The sale goes on for a while and the PS3 base price never changes, so you have time to decide.

I tried doing it with the PS3 and the following movies and at checkout put in the code AMAZONBD but it said it code could not work. What am I doing wrong. I checked and I think all these movies are Warner Brothers (they are all on the page with the PS3 and other players)
I tried with the free remote also and that worked, but I need the PS3 first before I would get the remote. Am I just not seeing my error. Please help.
Michael Clayton
Speed Racer
Batman Gotham Knight
Superman Returns
I even switched out Superman for Phantom of the Opera
It should work. I would contact Amazon and ask. The PS3 is suppossed to work because it's on the page. Also, it looks like you are doing it right, make sure you don't enter the code for the remote, I don't think it will work with this program.

If I dont go with the PS3, which of the other players is a better. One comes with an HDMI cable for $2.00 more. I dont pay shipping or tax on AMAZON. I think I might get this also for my Sister and BIL for Christmas. I am trying to do this without my Dh finding out as one of them (whichever I decide) will be his Xmas gift.
I think the Samsung BH100 is better. It has the capability to upgrade to the NEW BD-Live, which allows your player to connect to the internet and get exclusive downloads and content for the newest movies(such as BATMAN: The Dark Knight coming out next month). The upgrade of the firmware is available now. The Sylvania does not have the capability at this time and does not boast or promote it.
My player arrives Monday the 3rd, a day earlier than posted. :D

When they get below the $50 range, I'll get one.
I didn't buy my first dvd player until they hit $40
Yeah, I figured I could handle the $100 range. I wouldn't buy one for $200, but this deal makes the price about $107, so I'm happy.
BTW, I saw this same player at BB and CC for $249. I find it hard to believe that you will find a name brand player this cheap(if you take into account of having to buy the movies).

hey, i've been going back and forth on the idea of a blu ray player...is it really so much better than a dvd player?
If you have a HDTV, then the answer is YES! On a regular TV, you won't notice. HDTV gets its best picture over the air over a antenna. Watching football is great!:yup: When you get HD over satellite or cable you lose a little in compression of the signal. On DVD and Blu-ray players there is a difference in the movies. If you watch a regular DVD and then a BR, you will notice the grain in the DVD; almost like moving back to VHS. I hav an HD-DVD player(yes, I still use it) and I love it. I like to take full advantage of my HDTV.

Hmm, not getting it to work? I went to the page, picked a Bluray player and the 4 titles, right off the page and it won't take the code? I guess I will hold off and see what happens
Yeah, I tried it again and the code didn't work(Just testing because you said it didn't work;)). The special is suppossed to go through the end of the year, so there might be a slight temporary problem.
I got in on this deal. I bought the Samsung player. The same player is at my local Wal-mart for $298 right now and I got it for $107 (no tax or shipping) + 4 movies.
Sure, I'm not crazy about all of the movies I had to get but I figured it was a heck of a deal so why not. I did a search on Amazon and tried subbing in some other Warner Blu-rays that weren't on the main deal page but the code wouldn't work with those.
My player is supposed to be here tomorrow. It should look great on my new 1080P tv.
Many thanks to the OP.

They are having problems, because I emailed them about the problem I was having with the PS3 in the promotion and they said it should work. I tried putting the movies in with one of the other players and it worked fine it was when I tried to put in the PS3 it did not work. They told me to purchase it and they would refund me the money.

I have tried for the past two days to get this to work with the PS3 (or any other Blu-Ray player) and every time I get an error message saying the following:
'Important Message
We're sorry, but the promotional code you entered cannot be applied to this purchase. Please refer to your promotional coupon for information about item or store restrictions.'
Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I might be too late for this particular decision as it looks like the Samsung is gone, but this info is helpful no matter when you go HD. HDMI cables don't have to be expensive. HDMI cables transmit a digital signal - not analog - so they don't see the benefit of super duper high quality cables in 99% of instances. As long as your HDMI cable isn't longer than 15ft, you won't see a difference between a $6 HDMI cable here (with free shipping) (http://www.meritline.com/hdmi-to-hdmi-a-v-cable-same-cable-in-bulk-plastic-pack1.html) and the $130 cable here at Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8473546&st=hdmi&type=product&id=1188558642139).
Digital signals are ones and zeroes, so it doesn't matter how clear the one or zero is as long as they're discernable. And even the cheap ones can do this just fine over normal distances.
Now, if you've got a run longer than 15 ft, I'd suggest component cables (red green and blue) and the quality of these cables WILL make a difference as they're transmitting an analog signal which is far more sensitive to interference and variance.
For runs of 6 ft, most people won't be able to tell the difference between HDMI and component cables, except that you can go a lot cheaper with the HDMI. They're both just fine. So if you've already got the component cables (ie. your DVD player came with them), go ahead and use them. But if you're building from scratch, HDMI is really nice as it cuts down on the number of cables and is cheaper.
Here's a nice little article on it (http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/122868.html) if you want to read more.
BTW, in my humble opinion, pretty much ANY Samsung will be LEAGUES better than ANY Sylvania. I could always be proven wrong, but in my experience, having owned products from both companies, I would spend my hard earned money on a Samsung. Sony has also been very good at disc reading devices pretty much since their inception, so I really wouldn't hesitate to buy a Sony Blu-Ray (or DVD or CD) player.

Mine just got delivered. It is indeed the Samsung BD-P1500 model.
Sorry to hear about your issues winddancr4. Hopefully you get it resolved. I don't see how they wouldn't honor it if you have the documentation.

I am totally fed up with this. I have been trying to get this and having so many problems. First I tried to get the deal with the PS3 it would not work, replaced the PS3 with the Samsung and no problem it would work. Decided to not order the Samsung I wanted the PS3emailed Amazon, told them the problem I was having and that it worked with the Samsung but not the PS3. They said they would honor the price, as long as I had the correct Blu Rays. I have been hold everything in my cart (including the Samsung which is still showing the deal by the way). Now I go on there and there are 3 different Sony Blue Rays, along with the Sylvania and the PS3. Put one of the Sonys the 350 in my cart along with the blu rays but it will not work. It seems to me it works on everything but Sonys. I even get the Samsung to work still as of 5 minutes ago. I really want to get the Sony 350 as a surprise for DH, for his TV (he loves his HD). Now I am going to email Amazon again and see what they say. I have kept all their emails so far. Has anyone else gotten one of the Sonys and if so what movies did you pick. I also see there are new movies up there now.

I read a review the other day that said to only go for the 550 if you had a certain type of "audio receiver" or something like that (something to do with 7 channels, I think)... other wise go with the 350

FYI... Amazon gave me the same error message until I created a new account that was NOT an "Amazon Prime" account. The first account I tried to use was Amazon Prime and did not honor that coupon code. My PS3 will be here tomorrow. Hope that helps a few...
Mine was a regular account, but I added the AmazonPrime trial. It gave me free 2 day shipping on it all. I just have to remember to cancel it before it renews. I've got all but one movie, it has not shipped yet. I will hook up my player soon. I'm waiting for my HD satellite to get hooked up.
Deal may have gotten better for some. They lowered the price of the Sony BD-S300 to $176.96 and if you added the four cheapest movies your total comes to $142.76 shipped:eyepoppin!!!!!!!!!!(The player is free shipping, you may have to pay for the movies or join AmazonPrime trial for free shipping(see post above)). You may not get a name brand that cheap this season along with 4 movies. The only issue is it looks to be a slightly older Sony. It has slow load times and does not connect to the internet for updates or new content for movies. If it's not a concern, then maybe it's for you.
Still waiting on Blood Diamond to ship....:(

If someone is able to order the Sony (either one) please let me know what movies you picked with it. I keep trying different movies but the code wont work. I am putting in only the movies on the pages with the 3 blu rays and the PS3. I would love to get this deal, but it did not work for me with the PS3 and it is not working with either of the Sonys. I may as well get the PS3 at Walmart on Saturday and get the $100 gift card with it.

What I did was open another account (I currently am a Prime member) with my husbands information and it worked. How much sense does that make????

Well the Sonys are gone and now they have a Sylvania, 2 Sharps, a Samsung, a Panasonic, a Pioneer, and an LG. The PS3 is not listed but when you go to the actual item it shows the special deal on it. Now I get to try the code again with these ones.
I got my Samsung and love it! The deal seems to keep changing. They substitute different players and raise and lower prices. None are $200 anymore. The best deal seems to have been the first few days. It's still not bad, just more expensive players.
The cheapest player at the moment is a Sharp for $263. So the deal for that would be around $240 with the 4 cheapest movies.
