My 10 year old son is wanting a gaming computer for Christmas. Can anyone tell me if this one is any good? Thanks!

The price and specs are nice but I've had trouble with gateways for a while. I build my own systems but my dad and grandparents have gateways and something always seems to go wrong. I've seen the memory fail, the hard drive crash and motherboard fry. It only has a 90 day warranty and is refurb, if it was new I would say go for it. The specs are nice, I'm just not too trusting of a gateway refurb. HTH

I have ad the opposite with Gateway. I am using a 9 year old gateway, and it has not given me a single issue. I am looking to get a new comp this year, only because the 20gig HD just isnt enough, lol. I play games on this, like WoW. And it does fine. But...a lot could have changed in 9 yrs, lol

I like Gateways too. As well as eMachines. That ad is confusing to me. Is that refurbished? Expect less warranty in that case. The integrated video is not good enough for a serious gamer. Expect to spend another hundred to address that shortcoming. Otherwise, very nice.

So basically a gaming pc for about $550. Although it is refurbed, the specs are awesome. Except for that video card mine is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 Graphics Card and is already 2 years old. And I have problems sticking after playing ToonTown after a while. (I am addicted I know.). But another $100-$150 to upgrade that might not be so bad. Hmmmmm.....:fluffy:

I had to look up toontown's requirements. They aren't that steep. It is a 'massively multiplayer online game' so your internet connection may be responsible for the lag you are experience.
Look at the known issues, too. Make sure you have the latest updates for your OS (directx esp) and your video card installed.
This guy solved a lag problem (http://www.toontowncentral.com/forums/bug-guts/172023-toontown-firefox-ttc-lag-problem-solved-d.html) by switching browsers. You may want to check to see what programs and processes you have running when you play.
good luck!
