View Full Version : How Much Christmas/Hanukah Shopping Have You Finished

Because of this site and the deals posted many have already completed some, most or all of their shopping. I was just wondering who has done what. As for me I don't have enough done to say I have done anything. I have gotten a partial list together of ideas but that is it.
I don't have a percentage - but certainly some. We are trying to cut back this year, as we tend to shop for everyone... and it is time some of the grown-ups get moved off the list...
Thank you for including hanukah! Last year we gave the kids teachers Hanukah presents.. (we figured what the heck, people give us Xmas presents without considering what we celebrate... so why couldn't we do the same?) it went over very well. This year DD has a Jewish teacher - so it will be more appropriate.

I normally wait until Oct(Toys R Us big book), but the majority I do on BF. My kids are 13 and 10 and aren't really into toys. I don't like buying electronics to early, b/c
if we have a problem. The receipt is only good for 60-90 days.

I haven't started yet, and its making me nervous. I usually pick up a few things from clearance all year long. I just haven't seen a deal/item thats made me go "OH! Perfect!" for anybody yet.

Oh and amazon.com helped too. lol
I have yet to start and probably wouldn't until BF, the only thing I would get now is the Wii and the Wii Fits if I see them anywhere!
I have a few things done... My list are made and I am waiting on my husbands list. He is a PITA to shop for because nothing ever is on sale! UGH!!!!! I need to cut back on my kids toys this year. I always buy waaaayyyy to much!

We are about 25% done. Still on the hunt for some good deals. We will really kick off our shopping in Oct and will hopefully be done by BF weekend.

I usually try to get the main items my kids want way in advance to make sure I get them. But so far, the kids and dh haven't mentioned anything they want:shock:

None here. We're trying to figure out if we're going to be moving out of state soon. Once that's figured out I'm sure we'll start picking up things as we see them.

I'm finished with our youngest niece. This year we got her a pink DS, Padded Case, and 3 games. My Mom, MIL, and Mamaw each get goodie baskets each year. I have started them with B&BW, and a season each of thier favorite TV series. I usually end up finding small items that they would like and adding them until I mail out the baskets. They seem to really enjoy the suprise each year. They just never know what will be in them :D Our nephew will get giftcards and I'm not sure for my Sister in Law.

I've been picking up Wii games like crazy for about $9.99 at the TRU sales and I have 4 boys so I will need a ton of stuff!
This is the first year that I haven't started yet. I am definitley getting nervous. I'm going to start putting together an organizational notebook with lists, etc.

Well since we are taking out kids to Disney this Christmas/Hannukah they are done. I figure several thousand on a vacation is good enough. I made my DD's appointments at the little boutique in Disney on Christmas day as a surprise and my DS is going somewhere with DH so thats their special thing. BUT I am still going out on Black Friday. I have no clue what for but darn it I am not breaking tradition. I would seriously miss it if I didn;t go.

Wow I haven't even thought about making lists yet or shopping yet. I just want BF to come!! I'm so addicted it's not even funny and the sad part is, this website has made my addiction about 200% worse!!! I'm on here so much reading everything I can :D
Thanks for all the advice! Keep it coming!!

Just ordered my last gift for my daughter- a portable dvd player from Walmart (bought from there as I have $100 in Walmart gift cards) and a cd. Paid only a few dollars out of pocket.
So this BF, I have to watch as my kids are done so what I buy now will be "extras"

I am seriously in a funk as to what to buy. This morning I went to TJ Maxx's skiing and snowboarding event and put a North Face jacket, Columbia snow pants, and a North Face Fleece hoodie on layaway for my 2 d's. Other than that I am clueless. Maybe a GPS for oldest D. Youngest D is so picky about everything I hate to shop for her anymore. And forget about DH!!

I only have 5 people left to buy for and then I have to finish some homemade Christmas ornaments. I want to be done by Halloween so I can just sit back and enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas and not have to worry about fighting the crowds for that last Christmas present.

I never even think of Christmas shopping until BF, but I did buy my dad something to give my mom from a catalog. The thing about Christmas shopping that I HATE is that I'm always doing other people's shopping too, like getting my mother things from my dad. Every year, I over-buy on BF and "sell" that stuff to my other family members for them to give on Christmas and that's kind of my own fault. Last year I got into a bad place where people were counting on me for their Christmas shopping AND I had to buy my boyfriend things to get my family because he was clueless. It really took away from the spirit of gift-giving.

I'm just about done, but put myself down as being half done, because I always end up going overboard! I have one major thing to buy for DS (only thing he's asked for this year was a Lego Mindstorm NXT) and a few smaller things. My family is done for the most part. Since we're going home for christmas this year, we're trying to do smaller gifts.

I'm about 1/2 done... my 12 year old son will NOT tell me what he wants this year and it's driving me nuts... I just know he will wait till the last second and I won'g be able to find a good deal on what ever it is! He KNOWS I DON'T DO RETAIL!

I'm about 75% done myself. I need to buy for DH, FIL, and finish up the 3 kids. Everybody else is done.
I'm a little more than half done. Just have my parents, my DH, and a couple of co-workers to get gifts for.
Oh, and the kitties.

Goodness, wish I was there. I'm usually about 1/3 done by now, and I usually do another 1/3 on BF and the rest just before Christmas w/ a bonus check.
Not this year. I've bought next to nothing that I need. I'm maybe 1/10th done. I only have 2 small things for my son, and he is the biggest part of my budget. Along w/ a few other gifts I needed to buy. I'm starting to stress big time. Oh and no bonus check this year to help things along......

11-5-2008, 6:05 PM
I have about 15 gifts purchased--but that is NOT 15 people off the list --because some people get many gifts.....
So I have made a small dent, but all the items were very good prices, so I feel positive about the situation. :yup:

1 gift of mine has to go back, as it was for my neice and nephew- bought them the V-tech motion (they are 4&6). My sister is got them Wii. So, the V-tech system will be nothing compared to that, so I'm less done than I thought.
Though I did pick up 3 more gifts this week. Slowly but surely getting there. So far the BF ads are not looking promising for me though.

About half done here. Im trying to save some items for December as I love to be out in the hustle and bustle Christmas shopping rush, but I'm just finding too many deals to pass up :)
Only about 2 items left to get dd, 4-5 things for dh and then other than 2 things I am buying for myself, the only others that are left are parents.

I picked up just a few items so far. All of them were deals too good to pass up except for one - I got the Apple itouch for my son. It is the only thing he asked for so far and I didn't want to worry about running around later looking for one, so I just went and got it a few weeks ago. They won't go on sale anyway.

I got the 3 laptops I needed...anything else is a bonus in my eyes! Although I still have to get lots of little things, my mind is at ease knowing those are wrapped and ready to go!

I have everything done except for stocking stuffers and the in-laws and they refuse to draw names any time before Thanksgiving.
I'm going to try to talk them out of doing gifts this year due to the economy. I hate buying stuff just for the sake of presents, I only see some of these people once a year!

Now the only gift I still need is a laptop for DH. Everything else is purchased and in hiding!
