It looks like a decent deal to me.

The specs are solid for a home office computer and for general use. It is a bit underpowered for any type of gaming if that is an interest.

can i upload my digital pictures, and then put them on a cd with this laptop? if i can would it take forever?

You can do that with this computer, and even better, according to the specs, it has lightscribe to "decorate" or label the CD's or DVD's that you make. The labeling takes longer than actually burning on my computer and the Lightscribe discs are still expensive, but it's so freaking cool!!!! LOL
