the trains have these requirements: you must be a gottadeal member for 2 months with 50 posts. Then you will start a train by sending good coupons to the conductor. From there she decides where to place you.

Stick with the site and post and you'll qualify soon!

How many coupons do you start with? Also, when it comes to you, do you take what you want and replace the same amount, or just take a certain amount?

you take out what you want, and replace with new coupons. i would say there are between 50-100 coupons in each envelope maybe. it has to weigh a certain amount. can't remember right off hand what that weight is for the light cargo train

the heavy cargo trains are usually 4 ounces (minimum)

So, if I wanted to attempt to start one, would I have to start it with the 50-100 coupons?

I'm not sure what I consider good would be considered good by others. And, do you guys include store-specific coupons (I get Safeway coupons printed at the register, but I know not everybody has Safeway).

the light train is 2 ounce (2 stamps) one ounce is roughly 30 coupons.

the heavy train varies. (3 stamps or more) but it is prefered to have it hand stamped at the p.o. 3 ounces is the lowest i've seen.

some people do add catalina coupons but that isn't included in the weight needed to send.

the trains have a poll on the top to give you an idea of what people are looking for.
