Hi all,
Many different grocery stores including Cub (in my neck of the woods), Kroger, etc are offering to tack on a 10% bonus if you buy a $300 or $600 grocery gift card with your economic stimulus check. For example, put your $300 check in and get a $330 gift card.
I am sure many of you know that by now. It is a great deal because MOST of us probably would use that in less than 3 months and that is an immediate 10% return on investment.
Anyways, does anyone know how they "prove" it is from a stimulus check and not just cash? Does it matter? I only ask because mine was deposited directly into my bank account. Do I need to bring a bank statement to use this offer?

Well I think I found my answer by googling...
"Customers can get the bonus by bringing a valid identification card with their economic stimulus check, check stub or bank statement showing direct deposit to any service counter at any Coborn’s, Cash Wise Foods or Cub Foods."
So it sounds like I would just need my ID & Bank Statement, not that I really want the customer service rep to see my financial activity
It also looks like all Supervalue stores, Kroger, Sears/Kmart, and many other regional chains I have never heard of are offering similar deals.

The Kroger/Hilander ad here just says if you buy a gift card they will give you the bonus, it does say that you have to buy it at the customer service counter not a register, but it doesn't say anything about proving that the money came from your stimulus check. I've been thinking about doing it too. The offer is good until July sometime I think.

i think...THINK that you can just take in the stub from your check OR if it was dir dep...irs mails you a letter around that date telling you what you got and why....i do think that letter will work as well, that way you are not having to take in a bank statement with all your personal info and bank activity on it....i do suggest, whatever store you are taking it to, call ahead first and speak with manager or someone who actually knows what they are talking about and ask them their store policy on it and what exactly you need before you make the trip!

I went to my local Cub (Supervalue) and they let me purchase the gift card w/ 10% bonus without providing any information/bank statement, etc.
They also had me use my credit card to buy it so I also got a % back on that. Great deal for me, I will use up my gift card in 3 months and I buy 95% of my groceries at that store anyway.

They didn't make me provide any proof of my stimulus check, but they did say that I had to pay cash or debit, no credit.
