Hi all,

I would like to keep track of my finances in Quicken or MS Money. I have both pieces of software.

Do any of you have a preference of one over the other? If you do, why?

I don't use either, but I have heard a lot of complaints about quicken for their "sunsetting" policy, which pretty much makes the software null and void 3 years after it was released, forcing you to update.

Thanks for the warning EagleEye! I'll definetly keep that in mind.

I always read the reviews on amazon for products. the MS moeny has HORRIBLE user reviews. I also am a quicken user. I usually get the turbotax/quicken bundle in the first quarter, so I don't care that the software times out, though I've never heard of that before.

I picked up Quicken 2004 at Office Depot for $10. It was uber-deluxe version on clearance. I havent' played with it much, but I'd like anything over a microsoft product.

Yep, I plan on tracking everything I can. I'm interested in this kind of stuff and planning for my future etc.

From the votes here, I'm going to try Quicken.

You may want to look at the official book as well. I borrow it from the library:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0072229705

as dfrucifier mentioned, you may get a good deal on Quickens, as they always do, such as combine with AV software, etc.. ensure that you got the coupons as well from the office supply store such as staples and Officemax and office depot. amazon may have a good deal too.

So yesterday I played around with Quicken Premier for a while. I have to say I am not impressed with what it offers. It's ok, but it seems to be not much more than a fancy checkbook register. I am going to try MS Money and see if it is any better.

Make sure that you bank has MS Money available as an option for downloading your statement. Microsoft recently started charging crazy fees for banks to offer statements in MS Money format, so a lot of banks have dropped that feature.

i have seen a lot of banks charging for access to statements in quicken format as well.

That is just out of hand...

You have to pay to see how much money you have. :)

It is a good thing I don't balance my checking account.
