Study summary:
The purpose of this study is to investigate a new internet-based venue (the Diabetes Health Care website) as an innovation for disseminating information about diabetes healthcare, specifically explaining what diabetes is, how it is diagnosed and treated, and how to manage it so as to avoid diabetes-related health conditions and complications; and, to ascertain how people respond to the internet site, including how they rate it, and the relationship between those ratings and their perceptions of their risk of having complications, their experience/facility with computers/internet, their preferences for ways of learning about diabetes health care, and their various other demographic characteristics.

Qualified participants must:
• Have diabetes or be a diabetic
• Between at least 18 years of age
• Minority are highly encouraged
Participants will receive:
A computer program has been created by the Research Group on Disparities in Health webmaster such that, once 200 people have completed the survey, the program automatically generates three gift certificates for Best Buy Gift Cards which are sent to the winner’s e-mail accounts as a bar-code—corresponding to 1st ($500), 2nd (300), and 3rd ($200) prizes, with their being a 3 out of 300 chance of becoming a winner. There will be no contact information exchanged between the respondents’ and the investigator, allowing respondents to remain totally anonymous, as the researcher cannot access the respondents’ e-mail accounts. Data will be downloaded directly into SPSS and data analysis will be conducted with the surveys as aggregate—not individual data.
